Painting Lichens: Color Theory with Watercolor (Virtual on Zoom)

  • Grand Rapids, MI 49503 USA (map)

(Ages 15+, Under 18 with Adult)

Wednesday, February 15             6:30–8:30 pm

Forget about lovebirds; celebrate one of nature’s unique love stories this February with lichens! As a symbiotic relationship, lichens are made up of multiple organisms that benefit from each other and cannot survive apart—they are literally inseparable! Join Pierce Cedar Creek Institute and Dayna Walton of Solstice Handmade to learn watercolor methods to capture the many colors and textures of lichens. We will start with a brief technique warmup, practicing value, stroke, and blending methods. Then we will dive into color theory, from mixing a spectrum of hues to applying them to your artwork. But this class isn't just about painting! You also will leave with knowledge of lichen anatomy and some common colorful species. This live class will be held over Zoom, and you will receive a video recording of the class. This workshop is suitable for painters of all experience levels.

Members $35; Non-Members $49

You may pick up your kit at the Institute starting February 6 or add $10 for mail delivery (must be registered by February 3 if you want it mailed)

Institute members are part of a very special community, the Pierce Cedar Creek Institute community. For them, the Institute is a community center, a place to learn and socialize, a place to have fun and express concerns with others who share a common interest. But it’s more than that. They take what they’ve gained through their experiences and their love of nature and share them with their family, friends, and co-workers, thereby expanding the community.

What better gift to give the people who matter most to you?
