Join in for a Solstice Handmade’s Virtual Class! You’ll learn the basics of watercolor as well as texturing techniques to learn how to capture your favorite fungi.
Here’s how it works:
-on Oct 15TH FROM 6:30-9PM EST, live class will be help over zoom. This will include time for questions and critique. Class will be recorded and sent to participants so that it may be watched at a later time. Register before Oct 7.
-choose ‘supplies included’ to be mailed/pickup paint, brushes, paper, and a palette.
-choose ‘video only’ to use your own supplies to paint along! We will be using Rose Madder, Cad Yellow, and Indigo watercolor paint, canson watercolor paper, as well as 2 sizes of round brushes.
-Everyone will need: water, paper towel, a pencil and eraser, a quarter and jar lid or other round templates to trace that are apx 1in and 3in across. These are not provided with the kit
To start us off, we will walk through and warm up with watercolor basics such as color mixing, tinting, focusing on exploring greens from olive to emerald. We will then use a collection of botanical photos from my hiking excursions for reference to apply these basics. Better yet- hit the outdoors and look for some plants to paint from life with in the days before class! Wet blending and detailing techniques will be our main focus. We will also discuss examples of natural science illustrators and approaches to composition, and chat about ways to incorporate what we’ve covered.
zoom link and additional details will be delivered via email to all participants in the days before class!
